In his 2010 State of the Union address, President Obama announced the National Export Initiative and set a goal of doubling U.S. exports by 2014. In his 2012 State of the Union address, he reiterated his commitment to that goal, and how he believes that growing American exports fits with bringing back American manufacturing – and rejuvenating the American economy as a whole.
